About Us

Hi, and welcome to Kinder Soaps. We have two key goals:

  1. to comfort troubled skin, and
  2. to do it in a way that does not burden Mother Nature unnecessarily.

We have been providing all-natural, handcrafted soap and basic skincare items to our clients since 2009, because we saw how effective they can be in soothing skin that is troubled by problems like eczema, acne, dryness or hypersensitivity.

Why We Started

I grew up with eczema, as a child. Topical steroid creams were the norm back then, and my mother faithfully applied it to my skin to help them clear up. While they eventually did, the side effects lingered - I had thinned, darkened skin, and when the eczema reappeared they came back with a vengeance.

So when my daughter was born in 2008, I could recognise those tell-tale signs of eczema appearing on her elbows, behind her knees, and her neck. I was distraught, because the sight of those angry red patches of skin resurfaced my memories of itching, bleeding skin that made me toss and turn at night.

I was determined that Andrea would not go through the same discomfort as I did. This kicked off my extensive reading into white papers to understand the biomechanics of eczema as best as I could, as well as to delve into researching skincare ingredients found in common bath and body products. I also went about experimenting with making soap from scratch, incorporating all kinds of carrier oils and essential oils, clays and other natural ingredients to try to find something that could soothe Andrea's inflamed skin.

That was how our flagship Goat's Milk and Patchouli soap was born. And the rest, as they say, is history. :)

13 Years Of Service, and Counting

NPRA Logo

We have since grown out of our apartment kitchen, and now occupy a little shoplot in Damansara Jaya, Selangor. Although we still make everything in small batches by hand, we are one of the few handcrafted cosmetics manufacturers in Malaysia that is regularly audited by Malaysia's National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA), as we are recognised as being compliant with ASEAN Cosmetics Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). Our products are all duly notified with NPRA on their QUEST 3 system (you can search for them HERE) as our commitment to always putting our customers' safety front and centre.

Coral Reef Rehabilitation Efforts

Thanks to our customers' support through the years we have also recently been able to contribute towards Reef Check Malaysia's reef rehabilitation / coral planting efforts in Pulau Tioman, and Mantanani. Learn more about the Kinder Seas Project HERE.

Minimizing Packaging and Shipping Waste

We are acutely aware of the fact that cosmetics products contribute to a whopping 120 billion units of packaging every year globally. This will not do, and we are trying our best to tread as lightly as we can on the environment. We always offer our soap bars in naked (no packaging) form as an option on our website (and with our zero waste partners!), and our soap bar wrappers are made in-house using cotton calico infused with beeswax and plant resin.

We haven't bought any new shipping material since 2019! Instead, our community of customers, friends and family have been rescuing shipping material from their other e-commerce purchases for us to utilize. Every parcel we ship is truly unique. :)

We have also switched to using oxo biodegradable shrink film for our contract manufacturing clients' orders, which safely degrade into biomass and water in two years under landfill conditions. Listen to more on that HERE.

We look forward to serving you in the long run. Thank you for this opportunity to do good by you, and our earth.

Warmest regards,

Michelle Ho
