Who We Are
Hi! I’m Michelle Ho Chui-yean, founder of The Kinder Soap Company, and I am so honoured that you’d like to get to know Kinder Soaps a little better.
This company is the result of a young mother’s mission to provide relief for people who live with sensitive skin. I specialise in handmade soap, using the cold process technique that basically transforms humble yet valuable vegetable and plant oils into luxurious bars of soap that are fantastic for your skin. Everything you see in the shop is free from artificial fragrances, colourings, unnecessary preservatives, SLS, parabens,… You get the idea. Only pure essential oils are used to scent and enhance the efficacy of all my soap, all for the benefit of your skin’s wellbeing.
Our mantra: Be Kinder.
What We Do
Put simply, these are our core activities:
- Create all-natural skincare products that stay clear of chemicals that are known to irritate skin.
- Educate the public on general skincare.
- Give 10% of our net profits to the needy.
Why We Do It
I just can’t help but want to help people. It just so happens that I
- have a loving husband and two toddlers to care for;
- am more concerned about responsible, healthy living now that I am a mother;
- enjoy craft work and have a deep respect for the level of love and care that is devoted to handmade things;
so I figured that this would be the platform to achieve my ambitions of addressing as many people’s skin concerns as possible. Plus, it is a big responsibility for us to build a business that is sustainable so that we can continue to be financially sound enough, in order to keep giving back to society.
But perhaps most important of all, we absolutely love doing this.
100% Money Back Guarantee!
I’m so confident that you’ll find my soap beneficial for your skin, that I’m willing to offer a full refund of your purchase (including shipping fees, if applicable) if you’re not satisfied with my soap, for whatever reason. Keep the soap and I’ll arrange for a refund right away. With that kind of assurance, I hope you’ll be more confident of your purchases here at Kinder Soaps.
hi… congratulations on your products…i like it very much.. this may sound silly… but are your soap bars are considered soap free? well i know it is chemical n preservative free… but in the market, there are soap free soaps.. which are good for the skin… i’m very concern about this because soaps may dry the skin… so.. are your soaps dries the skin after using it?
Hi Razif,
Thanks, I’m really glad that you like my soap! And what you have asked is not silly at all - in fact, I’m glad you did raise this issue, because you’re voicing a concern that lots of people have. So thank you for doing this on their behalf.
To answer your final question first, I formulated all my cold process soap to contain excess vegetable oils once the saponification process is complete, so that your skin gets to enjoy the moisturizing benefits that these oils carry. They definitely do not dry out skin as compared to off-the-shelf soap bars, most of which use surfectants like sodium laureth sulfate as an inexpensive cleaning and foaming agent. Chemicals such as this are the reason why many commercially-produced “soaps”, which really are detergent-based, tend to dry out skin.
The “soap-free” cleansers that you find in the market are called such merely because they may not contain some of these surfectants, and their pH levels are closer to being neutral. Cold process soap on the other hand, when properly made, naturally lather without the aid of detergents, and are much kinder to the skin.
I hope this answers your question. If you’d like to know more, just keep asking - I’d love to see how I can help you!
Hi, I heard you on Bfm yesterday and was very impressed by your spirit. I hope to try your products very soon.
Hi Joo Lee, thanks very much for the compliment. I hope the spirited-ness is infectious!
hi.i would like to learn lye soap making from you.
u can contact me at 012-4232615. i m allan.
i m using pour and melt method to make soap for my sensitive skin. but found it too dry for my face.
Hi Michelle!
A friendly advice…If you want to stay in the business for a long term as soap maker, you should not be giving out seminars often. For sooner or later, these people will become your competitor in the future and the soap making business will mushroom all over KL. This will ofcourse affect your career as a soap maker. I hope you don’t misunderstood my opinion. It is not being selfish, it is a business trade secret. You are already helping them by simply providing very good quality soap like what you are selling now. Keep up the good work!
Hi Niko, thanks very much for your opinion. What you say makes sense. At the end of the day, my intention is just to avail help to those who need it, in whatever way I can afford.
Hi, Michelle,
I’m a handmade soap lover and would really to learn from how to make the soap. Do you still give classes and what is the fees.
Hi Vivian, sorry but I don’t conduct classes at the moment - I would like to spend more time with my young children for now. I’ll be sure to blog about it when I do start proper lessons though. :)
Hi Michelle, it’s really interesting to make our own soap. I’m interested in trying out. I would really appreciate if you could give me some tips on how to do so, eg what items or raw ingredient needed and where to get them (in small quantity).
Thanks so much.
